Kautilya
Parishad – Economics Society
The Kautilya Parishad was established in early 1960s to organize
different programs and events for the students of the Department of Economics in
particular and other students of the college. Its main objective is to enlighten
and spread awareness among students of economics about different economic
issues that we are faced from time to time. Over the years the Kautilya Parishad has organized talks on
different topics, quizzes and debates on various relevant and burning topics in
the Indian as well as the global economy.
In the past few years the Kautilya Parishad has been organizing
public speaking programs for the students. The main objective of undertaking
this type of program is to encourage students to read and acquire knowledge
about issues outside their syllabi. Also, through participating in public
speaking programs they will also be able to overcome their inhibition,
hesitation and, in some cases, the fear of speaking in front of an audience. Kautilya Parishad has also organized
Eco-Quiz in the past. This allows for a greater cohesion between different
batches of students as teams are formed comprising all the three years. They
are tested on the basic concepts of economics. This is a huge student
favourite.
The topics on which public speaking
program has been conducted have revolved around the different problems
affecting the Indian Economy. Some of them are, “Various aspects of Indian
Economy”, “Corruption”, “India’s Economic Problems: A Gen-X Perspective”, “Current
Problem of the Indian Economy’.
The Kautilya Parishad plans to take more such programs in the time to
come and help students to explore ideas and views about economics outside the
purview of the syllabi and textbooks.
